At Poplars Nursery School, we understand the importance of creating a homely, family feel where every child feels secure. Having a few familiar and practical items from home helps children settle into their small group learning and enjoy their play-filled day to the fullest.

Starting nursery is an exciting milestone for children and families. To help your child feel settled, comfortable, and ready to learn, it’s important to pack the right essentials each day. Here’s a simple guide to what you’ll need:

1. Spare Clothes
Young children are naturally curious and often get messy while playing, painting, or exploring outdoors. Pack a few spare outfits, including socks, to keep them comfortable throughout the day.

2. Nappies, Wipes, and Creams
If your child is still in nappies, please provide enough for the day along with wipes and any creams they use. Staff will always let you know if supplies are running low.

3. Comfort Items
A small comforter, teddy, or blanket can help your child feel safe and reassured during rest times or if they’re missing home. Please bear in mind that these items can sometimes get misplaced, so it may be best to choose something small or a duplicate rather than a special one-of-a-kind toy.

4. Weather-Appropriate Clothing
Outdoor play happens in all seasons, so a coat, hat, gloves, or sun hat (and sun cream in warmer months) are important to pack.

5. Indoor Shoes or Slippers
Some children feel more settled with soft indoor shoes or slippers, especially during group times or naps.

6. Water Bottle
Please provide a labelled water bottle so your child can stay hydrated throughout the day.

7. Any Special Items
If your child has allergies or additional needs, please let us know and pack anything essential they may require.

Bringing these items helps children feel comfortable and prepared, while also allowing them to fully enjoy all the exciting activities nursery offers.
